The Battle of Yonkers, as illustrated in Max Brooks' World War Z

The upcoming World War Z movie is finally stumbling into production. The week we’ve learned that, along with Brad Pitt, the cast will include Matthew Fox of Lost. It is also rumored that the cast will include James Badge Dale of The Conspirator and Anthony Mackie of The Hurt Locker — we can’t wait to see these guys kick some zombie butt!

The film will be shot in Glasgow, Scotland, which will be gussied up to look like an apocalyptic Philadelphia. If you’re anywhere near Glasgow, check out this casting call: They’re looking for men and women of all ages — we’re guessing some good zombie makeup will be involved.

World War Z is the film adaptation of Max Brooks‘ 2006 novel, World War Z. No one seems to be clear on the film’s delivery date. We’ve read summer 2012, 2013 and 2014. Whenever it comes, we’ll be ready for this zombie apocalypse.

Something about Han Solo as the living dead really works …

… and I really dug how Mr. Potato Head has lost several parts in Toy Gory. He is the perfect zombie toy candidate.

In addition to killing zombies in P&P&Z, Johansson might soon be playing a zombie on screen. The actress is also rumored to be attached to the film adaptation of Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament. In the film, Johansson would presumably play Rita, the main character’s zombie love interest and attendee of Undead Anonymous. Killer!

Like most people, I kinda hate Julia Roberts. Here is an excellent parody poster … although if Julia Roberts actually made this zombie movie, I might upgrade my attitude toward her acting career.

The TIME magazine website is featuring a short interview with legendary zombie film director, George Romero. In the interview, Romero answers ten reader-submitted questions, and reveals that he doesn’t like the new trends in horror films, and isn’t at all rushing out to see the latest zombie films. He says his favorite film ever is The Tales of Hoffman. I haven’t seen it but am intrigued.

Here’s a quick Six-Degrees to Jane Austen: Natalie Portman played Queen Amidala in Star Wars, Episode I, in which Kiera Knightly played Sabe, who dressed as the queen. Kiera Knighly also played Elizabeth Bennet (the lead character) in the 2005 movie version of Pride and Prejudice. Not to mention, Natalie Portman totally kicks ass. Perfect casting, right?

The show provides an entertaining and light zombie fix with reasonably good production quality and funny characters. The first five episodes are currently out, one featuring Wayne Knight of Seinfeld. The series is being released every few days during the month of October on Crackle.com.

Woke Up Dead is part of this month’s Zombiefest on Crackle. For Zombiefest, sixteen full-length zombie classics are featured on the site, in addition to special content from Zombieland. Check it out before it’s gone!

An interesting side note is that Schlozman drafted a faux medical journal article about a zombie outbreak, called “Ataxic Neurodegenerative Satiety Deficiency Syndrome.” Let it be known that we want a copy!

Although the producers are mum on Murray’s involvement, he was seen around Atlanta when Zombieland scenes were filmed there, so we’re going to believe the buzz.

Zombieland comes out in October this year. We’re hoping it’s a genre-bender, but we’ll settle for smart and funny gore.
